Memorial Day: Red, White, and Blue Cocktails

Memorial Day reminds Americans to honor the sacrifices of the men and women who have served in our military and defended our country. As we pause to raise a glass to those veterans and active military, we also celebrate the unofficial beginning of the summer season. So, mix the marinades and get grilling!

We thought it only appropriate to gather three recipes that pay homage to our Stars & Stripes while they also get us primed for longer, sunnier days on the lawn or by the pool, sipping cool and refreshing cocktails and getting chill.

B&T (Batch & Tonic)

This riff on the classic gin & tonic showcases perfectly just how much Batch 22 elevates a drink when subbed for vodka or gin. The addition of rosemary syrup and bitters, and the use of elderflower tonic, provides an extra-special alchemy of refreshing herbaceousness to this wonderful and simple cocktail.

Instructions:

Mix in a rocks glass with ice:

  • 2 oz. Batch 22 Classic Gold aquavit
  • .25 oz. Rosemary syrup
  • 2-3 Dashes Rosemary bitters
  • Top with elderflower tonic
  • Garnish with rosemary sprig

Cherry Tart

The Cherry Tart is the perfect cocktail for anyone who loves the blending of sweet and tart. Its deep red color and multi-level cherry flavor also make it an ideal choice for Valentine's Day!

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz. Batch 22
  • 2 oz. tart cherry juice
  • 1 tbsp. fresh lime juice
  • 1 tbsp. brown sugar simple syrup
  • 1 tbsp. ginger beer
  • ¼ cup tonic
  • Morello cherries in syrup (for garnish)

Instructions:

In a shaker with ice, combine the Batch 22, cherry juice, lime juice, and simple syrup. Shake well to chill.

Strain the mixture into a coupe add the ginger beer and tonic. Stir until well-combined. Drop in the Morello cherries and enjoy.

Surf Report

In 2023, Batch 22 was honored to take part in the annual fundraiser for the Jimmy Miller Foundation, which provides Ocean Therapy for people suffering from trauma-induced mental or physical illness or injury. Surf therapy is one the JMMF’s largest and most popular programs, so we created a cocktail that celebrated surfing for the event.

Ingredients:

In a shaker with ice combine:

  • 5 oz. Batch 22
  • .5 oz. Blanco tequila
  • .5 oz. Blue curacao
  • 4 dashes of Angostura bitters
  • 4 oz. Limeade

Instructions:

Shake and strain into a chiled margarita glass with ice. Rim with salt if desired. Garnish with an orange section.

Let the summer begin!
