Flight 22

This recipe is a riff on the classic cocktail called an Aviation, which was very popular at the turn of the 20th Century. The original uses only gin, but this recipe mixes gin with Batch 22 to add extra layers of floral and herbal notes.

Instructions

  • Shake over ice:
    • 1.5 oz. Batch 22
    • .5 oz. Gin
    • .75 oz. Lemon juice
    • .25 oz. Maraschino Liqueur
    • .75 oz. Creme de Violette Liqueur
  • Strain into a Nick & Nora or Classic Martini Glass and serve up. Garnish with lemon corkscrew twist.

Floral Pattern

Light and refreshing, we love how the many complex floral elements of Batch, gin, and elderflower are brought together by the grapefruit soda.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz. Batch 22
  • 1 oz. Gin
  • .5 oz. Elderflower liqueur
  • 4 oz. Grapefruit soda

Instructions

  • Stir the Batch, gin, and elderflower in a rocks glass with ice. Add grapefruit and stir gently to combine. Garnish with raspberry, lemon spiral, or grapefruit peel.

Goalpost Punch (about 15-20 servings)

This recipe is based on a classic Southern Planter’s Punch, which evokes some of the traditional sweet-tea flavors of the American South.Ingredients

  • 1 bottle Batch 22 Classic Gold
  • 1.5 cups dark rum
  • 1 large Firepot tea bag 4 cups boiling water
10 fresh mint leaves
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 cups pineapple juice
1/2 cup lemon juice
1/2 cup orange juice

Instructions

  • Float lemon wedges/wheels along with other garnishes
  • Pour 4 cups of boiling water over tea bag and mint leaves. Steep 5-10 minutes, then remove tea bag and add sugar. Mix to dissolve. Allow to cool.

Grover Cleveland

Every day is worth toasting to, so we developed this sour-adjacent cocktail for President’s Day. The former governor of New York, Cleveland was the 22nd President of the United States and the only president in history to serve two non-consecutive terms (he was also the 24th president). He also had a big moustache, which you can replicate with the creamy foam on top.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz. Batch 22
  • .5 oz. Maraschino liqueur
  • .5 oz. Luxardo Sangue Morlacco
  • 1.5 oz. Cranberry juice (unsweetened)
  • .5 oz. Lemon juice
  • .75 oz. Egg white
  • 4 Dashes Spiced Cherry Bitters
  • Spice Maraschino Cherry garnish

Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients except bitters in a shaker and shake without ice for 20 seconds. Add ice and shake until shaker becomes frosty. Strain into a martini or coupe glass and top with dashes of bitters and spiced cherry.

Hair of the Dog

Batch 22 was honored to provide the signature cocktails for the 2023 Annual Gala presented by Spike’s K9 Fund in New York City. The nonprofit provides care for working dogs that serve alongside first responders of all kinds and insures that the dogs are provided for after their service is done. For the black tie gala, which took place at the top of the Freedom Tower in Manhattan, we created three specialty cocktails. Hair of the Dog was one of them.

Instructions

  • Combine in a shaker with ice:
    • 2 oz. Batch 22
    • 1 oz. Sangue Morlacco
    • .5 oz. Blanco tequila
    • .5 oz. Lime juice
    • Either: Thai Spice bitter / Serrano bitters
  • Shake and strain into a rocks glass with ice. Squeeze fresh lime over the cocktail and garnish with lime peel.

Immaculate Reception Punch (about 15-20 servings)

Largely hailed as the greatest play in NFL history, Franco Harris’s catch in the final seconds of the 1972 AFC divisional playoff game won the day for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Dubbed “The Immaculate Reception,” the ball landed in Harris’s hands after bouncing off an opposing player, after which Harris ran it nearly 50 yards for the TD. The 2 shots of rye in this recipe are a tribute to Harris (who died in December 2022) and the city of Pittsburgh, as this is also the town that gave birth to the Boilermaker (beer and a shot of whiskey).

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle Batch 22 Classic Gold
  • 3 cups cranberry juice, chilled
  • 1 cup pomegranate juice, chilled
  • 2 shots of rye whiskey
  • 1 1/2 cups chilled ginger ale
  • 1/4 cup Simple Syrup
  • 1 bottle prosecco, chilled

Instructions

Mix all ingredients, except prosecco, in a large punch bowl with ice and garnishes. When ready to serve, add prosecco and stir gently to combine.

Previous

K9

We were asked to come up with an espresso cocktail for the Spike’s K9 Fund Gala in New York City, and we were asked to use coffee from San Diego-based coffee roaster, Seven Seas. This fun riff on a White Russian is what we came up with. It makes a great dessert!

Instructions

  • 1.5 oz. Batch 22
  • 1 oz. Frangelico
  • .5 oz. Cream
  • 2 oz. Espresso
  • Garnish with coffee beans.

Kickoff Punch (about 12-15 servings)

The original Mule cocktail was named for the spicy “kick” it gets from the addition of ginger beer. Here’s a great Mule punch that your guests will surely get a kick out of.

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle Batch 22 Classic Gold
  • 1 cup fresh-squeezed lime juice (or Rose’s lime, which will be sweeter)
  • 12 dashes of angostura bitters
  • 5 cups Ginger Beer

Instructions

  • Garnish with fresh mint sprigs and/or lime wheels
  • Mix all ingredients (except ginger beer) in a punch bowl with ice and garnishes Add ginger beer last. Garnish individual glasses with mint leaves or lime wheels, if desired.

La Cienega (Boulevardier riff)

We are good friends with fellow San Diegans who launched their own spirit brand—Fierce & Kind—around the same time as we launched Batch 22. We are big fans of their straight bourbon, and we are constantly innovating to create cocktails that marry their bourbon with our spirit. We think this one does the trick.

Instructions

  • Combine in shaker with ice:
    • 1.5 oz. Batch 22
    • .75 oz. Fierce & Kind bourbon
    • .5 oz. Aperol
    • .5 oz. Sweet vermouth
    • .5 oz. Lime
  • Shake and strain into a rocks glass and garnish with orange peel.

M22 (Batch 22 Manhattan)

We love our version of the classic Manhattan cocktail, which is not as sweet and offers more complexity of flavor. The M22 also happens to be a city bus that runs in the Lower East Side of Manhattan.

Instructions

  • Shake over ice:
    • 2 oz. Batch 22 Classic Gold aquavit
    • .5 oz. dry vermouth
    • .5 oz. sweet vermouth
    • Optional: teaspoon of cherry liquid or Luxardo’s Sangue Morlacco
  • Strain into rocks glass with one large cube
  • Garnish with Luxardo cherry
